Bhedaghat is a town and nagar panchayat in Jabalpur district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The town is well known for the magnificent and splendid waterfalls along with its striking marble rocks that are 100 feet high & located on either sides of the Narmada River. There are many popular Bollywood movies and songs that are shot amidst these marble rocks. Tourists from not only India but all over the world come here to experience the magic of nature. Bhedaghat is located at geographical coordinates of 23.132°N and 79.801°E with an average elevation of 411 meters or 1348 feet. The city is located around 20 KM from the Jabalpur city on the sides of river Narmada. The best time to visit here is November to May. Dhuandhar Falls: The Dhuandhar Falls are located on Narmada River and are 30 meters high. The Narmada River when flowing through the marble rocks narrows down to plunge into a waterfall known as Dhuandhar. It produces a powerful sound like a roar that can be heard from a distance and it appears like smoke coming out from water. Dhuandhar comes from Hindi word Dhuan (smoke) and Dhar (flow) meaning smoke flow that gives a smoke like feeling. The best time to visit the falls is Sharad Purnima when Narmada Mahotsav is also celebrated. When moon light falls on the white marbles, it gives a spectacular silver appearance. During sunset, the white marble appears yellow and getting on a boat ride during this time gives a wonderful experience. Cable car service is also available at the Dhuandhar waterfalls. One can access the waterfalls from the east bank or west bank of Narmada River and use the cable car to see the other side.
Chaunsath Yogini Temple: It is one of the oldest heritage sites of India that was built in 10th century AD by the Kaluchuri Kingdom. The temple is the abode of Goddess Durga along with 64 yoginis. The temple is located near the Narmada River and famous marble rocks. The temple is situated on a hill top and there are 150 steps to be climbed to reach the temple. The temple has 64 shrines in circular motion, one for each yogini, and a main shrine where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati can be seen riding on Nandi, the sacred bull. The idols of yoginis are exquisitely carved and each one depicts a unique posture. The temple looks beautiful in sunlight.
